The Best Pilates Socks
I cannot rave about pilates enough - it’s such an incredible workout that’s low-impact, injury-friendly, gives you great results, and genuinely feels fun rather than a chore. That being said, it can be expensive and intimidating. I started taking classes a few years ago, and was absolutely terrified for my first class. I didn’t know what to expect, what to wear, what it would be like, and if the other people in the class would be nice (or judgmental).
While the only thing you really “need” for your first pilates class is to show up early to get acquainted with the studio, I highly recommend bringing grip socks. Some people practice barefoot, but I prefer the extra support that the grip gives me. Over the last few years, I’ve tried out quite a few brands (including the fancy, cute options available for purchase at different studios) and have figured out which are actually worth the money. They wash well, keep their grip, feel comfortable, and don’t get in the way of your workout.

I’ve tried so many brands over the years, and these socks on Amazon are the best socks for pilates. They are thick yet breathable, the grip lasts forever, they’re machine washable, dry quickly, and feel comfortable. I like that they’re slightly higher than an ankle cut, with a little bit of a higher rise at the heel, because that prevents them from falling or bunching when your feet are in straps. They’re cheap and no-fuss, but the quality lasts. You can get a six-pack for under $20, whereas it’s typically $20-25 for a single pair at a pilates studio.
They come in quite a few color ways if you like to match your workout set and fit into the “look cute” culture that seems prevalent with pilates culture (I just wear what feels comfortable to be honest; I’ve found others care more about their own workouts and how they look/ feel than me, haha). For size reference, I typically wear a 5-6 and ordered the small; they felt a little big at first, but have worn well, so I’d say they run true to size.
If you want super cute socks that are a little more aesthetic, I really like this brand. They grip well, are more of a high-rise tube sock vibe, and come in fun patterns and phrases. They’re a little more expensive, though, ($20-22 for a single pair) so I reserve them more for classes with friends or as a gift to give others when they take their first class. I will say, the extra-tall ribbed pairs are really incredible for cold winter classes; they keep me a little warmer and are my go-to. These also run true to size.
Pilates is a fun workout, but like anything that requires you to get out of your comfort zone, it can be a little intimidating. Finally finding a great pair of reliable grip socks gave me one less thing to worry about (and one less thing to pay for), and I highly recommend them. I keep an extra pair in my car as well as my gym bag, in case I ever forget them or want to schedule a last minute class after work, and since they’re so cheap, you can stock up without having to bend your budget.
