the best time to visit washington dc monuments and memorials

during our DC trip, we went and saw all the monuments and memorials later in the evening. it was the best idea ever because it was less crowded and you’re also not spending time that could be spent in the museums (the museums close, the monuments are open 24/7).

i had seen the monuments and memorials when i last visited DC a few years ago, but they were even prettier at night. pretty isn’t the exactly right word when you think about what is being memorialized and recognized - but seeing everything at night just amplifies the significance behind it all. it’s quiet, and you have time to really think and process what you’re seeing.

everyone takes history classes in school growing up, but i think there is something to be said about revisiting it and diving deeper as an adult. time changes your perspective and when you learn on your own, you get to pull information from different sources (not just what is school- approved) and go at your own pace. even if history isn’t your favorite topic, i hope that you recognize the significance of learning about our country’s history - good and bad.
