Amika Frizz-Me-Not Hydrating Anti-Frizz Treatment Review

If frizz is your biggest hair concern, a good anti-frizz treatment can make styling easier while helping your hair stay smoother for longer. You’ve probably heard of (or even tried) Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Shine Spray. Known as the best anti-frizz treatment, it comes with a learning curve and the formula can be either too light or too heavy for fine or thick hair.

When I saw that Amika had come out with their own version, the Frizz-Me-Not Hydrating Anti-Frizz Treatment, I knew I had to try it. Designed to reduce frizz, smooth the hair cuticle, add lightweight hydration, and protect against humidity while not leaving hair stiff or greasy, it’s a heat-activated leave-in treatment that is meant for all hair types.

I have fine, dry hair and was excited to see how Amika’s Frizz-Me-Not Hydrating Anti-Frizz Treatment would work for me. Keep reading for my before and after results, pros, cons, and if I think it’s worth the price.

amika frizz-me-not hydrating anti-frizz spray review

Amika Frizz-Me-Not Hydrating Anti-Frizz Treatment is a heat-activated leave-in designed to reduce frizz, smooth the hair cuticle, add lightweight hydration, and protect against humidity. This is a lot to promise a customer, and I’m excited that the results actually back up the product’s claims.

Unlike serums or oils, Frizz-Me-Not creates a “seal” around each strand of hair that smooths hair while also blocking moisture from entering the shaft, thus preventing frizz over time. The results last about 3 days, which is on par for most anti-frizz spray treatments.

The major downside to Frizz-Me-Not is that it require heat activation. You must blow dry your hair with tension (or diffuse your natural curls) in order for it to work. You can’t air-dry or just run a blow-dryer through your hair. That added a bit of a learning curve for me, since I prefer to air-dry, but the results are so dramatic and long-lasting that it’s worth it.

I also found that it took at least a few uses to figure out exactly how much to use. Frizz-Me-Not seems like the middle-ground product between Color Wow’s Dream Coat and the Extra Strength Version, most ideal for medium to thick hair types. I have fine hair, and realized I didn’t need as much product with Frizz-Me-Not as I did with Dream Coat. Using too much made my hair feel a little heavy; it wasn’t a deal-breaker but something I did need to play around with a little.

If you want sleek, shiny hair a la Cher or the Kardashians, Frizz-Me-Not Hydrating Anti-Frizz Treatment actually works. It made my hair sleek, smooth, and hydrated. My hair wasn’t just soft; it felt nourished. The product also helped fight frizz amidst really humid weather for 2-3 days, so it’s definitely worth trying and I recommend it.

how to use amika frizz-me-not hydrating anti-frizz spray

Frizz-Me-Not Hydrating Anti-Frizz Treatment is a heat-activated product, so follow the directions carefully in order to make sure the treatment works:

  • Start with clean, damp hair.

  • Spray the product directly onto your hair, and then comb through evenly to make sure hair is fully saturated.

    • You want to make sure your hair is completely covered; this isn’t something that will “blend” out as you heat activate. If you miss a spot, that piece won’t get the treatment.

    • To make sure I apply enough without overdoing it, I section my hair (top, middle, bottom) and apply then blend each section individually.

  • Activate with heat:

    • For straight hair, blow-dry with a brush and tension to style it sleek.

      • The key is tension! That is what really activates the treatment. If you just run the blow dryer through your hair casually, you won’t get the best results.

    • For curly hair, use a diffuser to dry and define your curls.

Please note: I rarely like blow-drying my hair, but Frizz-Me-Not won’t work if you air-dry! You have to activate it with heat and tension.

is amika frizz-me-not hydrating anti-frizz spray worth it?

For the right hair type and routine, yes. Overall, I think that the Amika Frizz-Me-Not Hydrating Anti-Frizz Treatment is the middle ground between Color Wow Dream Coat and Dream Coat Extra Strength. You will get the best results with Frizz-Me-Not if you have medium to think hair and mild to moderate frizziness. My fine hair responded well to Frizz-Me-Not, but it was easy for me to accidentally use too much, whereas I get a little more wiggle room with Dream Coat.

That said, Frizz-Me-Not does a great job of taming frizz and making hair more manageable without weighing it down. I like that you can leave your hair blown-out and sleek or add curls and still get a frizz-free, polished look. The scent is one of my favorites (amber vanilla) but it isn’t too overpowering, which is important since I am prone to migraines.

I think if you have medium to thick hair or haven’t had success with Dream Coat or other anti-frizz sprays, you will really like Frizz-Me-Not Hydrating Anti-Frizz Treatment. It is easy to use and once you master the blown-out-with-tension styling, basically foolproof to use.

If you have frizzy hair, live somewhere humid, and want sleek, shiny hair, Frizz-Me-Not is fairly priced and worth trying.

who it works best for

  • Frizzy or wavy hair

  • Medium to thick hair

  • Those who want blowout styles

  • Those who want sleek, glass-like hair (think Cher or the Kardashians)

  • Those who live in (or are visiting) humid climates

who it might not work for

  • Fine, ultra-fine, or low-density hair

  • Those who air-dry their hair

  • Those who prefer volume over sleekness
