Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray Review
If you’ve seen the viral “glass hair” results, you’ve probably wondered if Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray is actually worth it, or if it’s just another overhyped anti-frizz spray.
I had seen Color Wow products at Sephora, but the packaging never grabbed my attention. It wasn’t until I was talking to a girl at a coffee shop that she told me I absolutely had to try Dream Coat. I only like to air-dry my hair, so I was skeptical, but she promised me it was worth it. My fine hair isn’t particularly high-maintenance, but becomes extremely frizz-prone on humid days (especially when I’m traveling), so I decided to really put Dream Coat to the test - on an 82% humidity day, without much experience blow-drying hair, and on my fine hair that is easily weighed down.
Below, I share exactly what Color Wow Dream Coat does, what the results look like, tips to use it, and whether it lives up to the hype.

color wow dream coat supernatural spray review
Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray is a heat-activated anti-frizz spray designed to create a humidity-resistant “seal” over your hair; think of it like a raincoat for your hair, so to speak. Unlike oils or serums, Dream Coat doesn’t just smooth out your hair; it’s specifically formulated to block moisture from entering the hair shaft (which is what causes frizz in the first place). It’s also much more lightweight, so if you have fine hair that’s easily weighed down by anti-frizz products.
I didn’t think I’d like Dream Coat because you have to blow-dry your hair, but I honestly LOVED the results and think it’s totally worth it. My hair was noticeable smoother, softer, and finally had that glass-like shine I’ve been aiming for. Truly, if you want hair like Cher (or, more recently, the Kardashians) this is the hair product you need.
My hair also felt “sealed” and stronger, making it different from the more hydrating leave-ins and anti-frizz products. As I mentioned, one of the days I tested out Dream Coat was insanely humid, and my hair was so unreactive to it that it felt like a miracle. If you live somewhere humid (or are traveling), I highly recommend it. For me, this is now a staple travel product because hotel water can wreak havoc on my hair and I know Dream Coat’s shield will act as a protectant and make my hair much easier to work with.
The biggest downside to Dream Coat is that it’s a little fussy to use; you have to blow-dry your hair with tension to activate the product. As someone who air-dries exclusively, this was a learning curve for me because I am in no way a blowout expert. I truly was dreading this part, but the results were so good that it’s worth adding the extra step (and time) to my haircare routine.
I also think sometimes hair brands use super fancy language to try to “dress up” their product, but Dream Coat’s marketing makes sense (and the results back it up). Dream Coat utilizes lightweight humidity-blocking polymers, so your hair feels weightless rather than coated, like it does with silicone-based anti-frizz products. My hair was sleek, smooth, and shiny, and it lasted for a few days (2-3 washes), so it’s worth it.
pros
Offers legit humidity protection (acts like a water-repellent "raincoat”)
Long-lasting (multi-wash)
Creates a sleek, polished finish and you actually notice (and feel) the results
Truly a lightweight formula
Doesn’t build-up
Minimal fragrance; ideal if you are sensitive
Offers heat protection
Makes your hair way less frizzy
cons
Requires heat styling; you also have to make sure you’re adding tension for full results
Can feel flat on super-fine hair
Technique matters a lot; it’s a more high-maintenance product in that way
key ingredients
What makes Dream Coat unique from other anti-frizz products is that it doesn’t contain heavy oils or butters; it adds tons of shine but is one of the most lightweight formulas on the market. It’s also unique in that it requires heat to activate, thanks to their unique blend:
Proprietary Anti-Humidity Complex - humidity-proofs, prevents frizz, adds shine, and provides heat protection.
Chamomilla Extract - protects color and enriches radiance.
Glycerin - provides moisture for healthy-looking, shiny hair.

how to use color wow dream coat supernatural spray
Color Wow Dream Coat is one of the few hair products that requires a specific application process. It relies on heat-activated polymers rather than silicones to address frizz, so how you apply it is very important.
Shampoo, condition, and lightly towel dry to remove excess moisture.
Once your hair is damp, divide your hair into sections for even application. You know what comes natural to you; I prefer to do horizontal sections (bottom, middle, top) and then divide that top section vertically (left and right following my part) since I have layered hair.
Spray liberally and evenly. Make sure your hair is completely saturated. This product won’t “blend in” on its own like a leave-in conditioner will (so to speak) so be thorough.
It’s extremely lightweight, so if you are worried you’re applying too much and it’ll weigh down your hair, trust me.
Don’t apply any other styling products while your hair is still wet. This has heat protectant in it, so you’re good. If you need to, you can apply more after the blow-dry.
If your hair is tangle prone, comb through.
Blow dry your hair, making sure you create tension with the hair (like a salon blow out). I use my fingers, but you can also use a round brush. Adding tension helps the polymers activate, so make sure you don’t skip this step!
If needed, you can apply other products after your hair is dry.
For best results, use every 3-4 shampoos.
Please note: I am an air-dry person through and through, but Dream Coat will not work if you air-dry! For more troubleshooting help, check out Why Color Wow Dream Coat Isn’t Working.
is color wow dream coat supernatural spray worth it?
For the right hair type and routine, yes. If you have frizzy hair, live somewhere humid, or want sleek, shiny hair, Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray is absolutely worth it.
The results speak for themselves, and while it requires heat styling to activate, the results last through 2-3 washes, so it’s worth the time for the extra step.
If you prefer beachy, undone hair or want lots of volume, you probably won’t love this product, but if you want shiny hair like Kim Kardashian or Cher, it’s the best product to have in your arsenal.
I wish it didn’t require heat styling to activate; if you never blow dry your hair and have no interest in doing so, skip Dream Coat. I air dry 99.9% of the time, but will make an exception for Dream Coat when I want sleek hair or need anti-frizz protection on especially humid days.
Worth mentioning: if you’re on a budget, I highly recommend Color Wow Dream Coat over other anti-frizz products. Because it lasts multiple washes, the cost per use is actually lower than most styling products. And even though you have to spray quite a bit to fully coat your hair, one bottle has already lasted me months, so I do believe it’s worth the money.

color wow dream coat supernatural spray FAQ
how long does color wow dream coat last?
Dream Coat typically lasts typically 2–3 washes.
can you use color wow dream coat on dry hair?
No. It works best on damp, towel-dried hair before blow drying. Using it on dry hair won’t properly activate the formula.
can you use it without heat?
No; it needs heat in order to activate and work. That said, I will admit on lazy days I have air-dried my hair outside in the sun on a warm day and gotten some (not all) of the benefits.
does it damage hair?
No, but keep in mind that it won’t repair hair, either. It’s not a treatment; it’s an anti-frizz and shine-enhancing product.
is it better than a serum or oil?
It depends. This is a sealant, not a hydrator, so it works differently than a serum or oil.
If your main issue is humidity and frizz, Dream Coat is one of the few products that actually delivers. If you want shine but also need hydration for dry or damaged hair, you may prefer an oil or serum.
As someone with fine, dry hair, I like to use Dream Coat when I style my hair, and then use a hydrating hair oil as a treatment on messy bun, pre-wash days.
is color wow dream coat good for curly hair?
It depends on your goal. If you want to stretch your curls into a smoother, straighter style, then yes. But I wouldn’t recommend it if you want to enhance curl definition.
If your hair is also thick or coarse, you may prefer the Extra Strength version; check out how Extra Strength compares to the original Dream Coat for more info.
does color wow dream coat make hair greasy?
No, I was super worried about this but was surprised by how lightweight it is. Dream Coat relies on heat-activated polymers instead of silicones to address frizz, so it leaves your hair glossy and smooth without heaviness or oiliness.
why isn’t color wow dream coat working for me?
I have a full post that troubleshoots Color Wow Dream Coat, but for quick reference, you may be experiencing problems if you:
Aren’t using enough product - you need to fully saturate your hair. It’s a lightweight product, so it won’t weigh down even super-fine hair.
Skip heat activation - that is needed to activate the polymers.
Apply unevenly - I like to section my hair to ensure it is applied all over.
Use too many (or heavy) products beforehand - let Dream Coat be the star of the show; it offers heat protection so you can skip that. Also skip heavy leave-ins and creams/ oils.
can you use color wow dream coat with other products?
Yes, but I recommend keeping it minimal in order to get the full benefits of Dream Coat. Stick with a lightweight leave-in conditioner, but you can skip a heat protectant since Dream Coat covers that.
Avoid any heavy oils or creams before using Dream Coat, because that can “block” the formula.
how is color wow dream coat different from anti-frizz serums?
Unlike traditional serums, Dream Coat uses heat-activated polymers to seal the hair, rather than coating it with oils or silicones. If your hair is easily weighed down or you struggle with build-up, you will prefer Dream Coat.
