Color Wow Money Mist vs It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In: Which is Better?

When it comes to leave-in conditioners, this post is truly a comparison of old versus new. I’ve been using It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product since middle school (almost 20 years ago - yikes), and its formula has truly stood the test of time. A true multi-tasking treatment spray, it repairs damage, strengthens hair, smooths frizz, and protects against heat all in one step, making it the multi-tool of haircare products.

Color Wow is a newer brand to me, but I’ve quickly become a fan of their Money Mist Leave-In Conditioner. Not only does it add hydration and detangle your hair, but it also adds noticeable shine, giving you a soft, glossy, polished finish.

That said, while each has their selling points, you don’t need both of these leave-in conditioners.

Below, I break down exactly how Color Wow Money Mist Leave-In Conditioner compares to drugstore favorite It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product. I compare price, pros, cons, and share which one works best for different hair types as well as if whether one actually outperforms the other. Keep reading for my full review and comparison.

color wow money mist leave-in conditioner: quick review

I didn’t think I’d love Color Wow Money Mist Leave-In Conditioner as much as I have, but it really is so good. It’s actually lightweight, yet still nourishing, and provides both heat and UV protection. What sets it apart from other leave-in conditioners is that it makes your hair shiny, not just soft. But if you’re looking for softness, Money Mist still does an incredible job. Whenever I use it, my hair doesn’t tangle throughout the day and feels hydrated when I go to wash it later on.

While it doesn’t do the best job at taming frizz compared to other leave-ins, it actually seems to enhance my heat-styled curls rather than flattening them, which is pretty rare for a leave-in.

A true multi-use product, Money Mist works as a detangler, heat protectant, and also adds enough shine that I can skip finishing oil, so for $30 you really can’t beat it.

pros

  • Lightweight formula that works for fine hair

  • Great for detangling

  • Makes your hair softer

  • One of the few leave-in conditioners that adds noticeable shine

  • Provides heat and UV protection

  • Reduces frizz without feeling greasy

  • Works on all hair types

cons

  • Does not provide intense moisture; may not be enough for coarse hair on its own

  • Results are more visual/ superficial than deeply reparative

  • Slightly expensive for a leave-in

it’s a 10 miracle leave-in: quick review

As I mentioned, It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product has been a staple in my haircare lineup for almost 20 years now. While it’s definitely expensive for a drugstore product at $40 per bottle, it’s so functional that it’s worth the price. Not just “10” in name, this leave-in provides 10 key functions, including heat protection, damage repair, frizz control, shine enhancement, split end protection, and detangling.

Factoring in how much it can do, I love how lightweight the formula is; your hair doesn’t get crunchy, but you notice how much softer your hair is when you go to wash it out. It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In truly is a staple product for me whenever I travel; it really does go the extra mile to protect against environmental factors your hair might not be used to as well as the harsher hotel water.

pros

  • True multi-tasking product (10 uses)

  • Ideal for damaged or chemically treated hair

  • Helps reduce breakage and split ends

  • Strong frizz control compared to lighter leave-ins

  • Adds noticeable smoothness and manageability

  • Works well as a detangler + heat protectant combo

  • Available at the drugstore

cons

  • Can feel heavy or slightly sticky, especially on fine hair

  • Easy to overapply, especially near roots

  • Not as “invisible” or weightless as newer, more modern leave-in formulas

  • Can build up over time if used daily without clarifying

  • Doesn’t enhance shine

  • Scent may be too strong for some

  • Expensive for a drugstore product ($40)

color wow money mist vs it’s a 10 miracle leave-in: which is better?

Both products are hydrating, so one isn’t the universal “better” product. It really comes down to weight and function.

If you have fine hair that is easily weighed-down hair, Money Mist is the way to go. It’s ultra-lightweight, adds softness and shine, and won’t leave any heavy residue. It’s ideal if you want a leave-in that you can use every day without worrying about build-up or a coated, heavy feeling.

If your hair is dry, damaged, heavily bleached, or needs repair, It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In is the better product. It’s full of conditioning and strengthening ingredients that help with breakage, split ends, and overall hair health over time. It’s heavier and more nurturing, but still lightweight enough for fine hair like mine

If your hair sits somewhere in the middle, you may prefer Money Mist for daily use and It’s a 10 when your hair needs extra help.

price

I always share a price breakdown when comparing products because it’s not just about how much you’re paying up front; you should also factor in how much you need to use and the size of the bottle when deciding which is cheaper for you.

Color Wow Money Mist retails for $30 per 5oz bottle, which breaks down to $6 per ounce. It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In costs $40 for a 10oz bottle, or $4 per ounce.

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In is definitely one of the more expensive drugstore products, though you can typically find it on sale. Either way, while Money Mist is cheaper up-front, you get more product and thus a better deal with It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In.

I also find that I use the same amount of each, so factoring in usage, It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In is cheaper and the better deal.

finish and styling results

Both add hydration and make your hair feel more nourished, so the main differentiator is shine.

If you want noticeable shine, get Color Wow Money Mist.

If you want a more traditional leave-in that moisturizes and fights frizz, get It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In.

frizz control comparison

I live in a somewhat-humid climate and have frizz-prone hair, so I’ve really put both of these leave-ins to the test. If taming frizz is your main priority, get It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In. It has a heavier formula than Money Mist, but a little goes a long way and it actually tames all of my frizz from root to end while also nourishing and preventing breakage.
