Dae Mirage Mist Leave-In Conditioner Review
Leave-in conditioner is one of the few hair products that benefits all hair types. Meant to add hydration and protect from damage, they make your hair SO soft and effortlessly add nourishment to your hair. The good ones also offer heat protection and don’t weigh your hair down, too.
That said, there’s a difference between a true leave-in conditioner and an add-on styling product. You want your leave-in conditioner to deliver noticeable results, and soak into your hair, rather than just sit on top of it.
Dae’s Mirage Mist Leave-In Conditioner is one of the more unique leave-ins on the market. Milky rather than creamy, it’s designed to detangle, condition, and add shine while still feeling completely weightless on the hair, making it especially appealing if you don’t love heavy creams or greasy oils.
Infused with desert-inspired ingredients, it leans more into hydration and softness than heavy styling or repair. That said, is it worth it? Does it actually do enough to replace your current leave-in, or is it better as a layering product?
Below, I share my full review with pros, cons, how it affects heat styling, who it’s best for, and whether or not it’s worth the money.

dae mirage mist leave-in conditioner review
I was a big fan of Dae’s Cactus Fruit Leave-In Conditioner, so when I saw that they were offering Mirage Mist instead, I had high expectations and a bit of skepticism. I will say that the Mirage Mist is a specific, unique type of leave-in conditioner. The formula is on the milky (versus super creamy), which makes it lightweight and ideal for fine or straight hair that can feel weighed down easily.
Mirage Mist Leave-In Conditioner makes your hair feel super soft, and I notice a difference anytime I use it. I prefer to use it on freshly washed hair because it doesn’t leave a greasy feeling, and it’s also nice to use before beach or pool days as an added layer of hydration. Plus, it gently helps detangle and I notice a difference in how manageable my hair is after I use this on more active days (like at the pool).
The scent is a dream, just as all Dae products are. It’s fresh and citrusy, but not chemical-y or overly sweet, so you could use this on children’s hair to help detangle without a fuss.
It doesn’t make my highlights brassy, and my fine, straight hair can still hold a curl after I use Mirage Mist, so if you struggle to find a leave-in conditioner that doesn’t hinder your heat styling, check it out.
However, if you are looking for a deeply nourishing, rich leave-in conditioner, this won’t be your favorite because it is so lightweight. Try this one instead, and then save Dae Mirage Mist for lightweight styling, or after you use a thicker hair mask as that combo would be perfect for deep hydration without being too heavy.
pros
Hydrating and conditioning
Makes hair noticeably softer and smoother
Detangles
Provides light frizz control
Can be used on wet or dry hair
Lightweight, milky (not creamy) formula but still nourishing
cons
Can feel too lightweight for very thick hair
Not ideal for controlling frizz in humid climates
Fragrance may be too strong if you are sensitive
Not a repairing treatment; provides more surface-level hydration
key ingredients
Dae is known for incorporating desert-derived ingredients into their product formulas, which helps set their products apart from competitors. That’s true for the nourishing Mirage Mist Leave-In Conditioner, as key ingredients include:
Dragon Fruit - contains antioxidants and enzymes that lock in moisture and nourish hair
Prickly Pear Seed Oil - conditions hair for a soft and healthy look
Meadowfoam Seed Oil - high moisture content restores hair to its natural, glossy luster
is dae mirage mist leave-in conditioner worth it?
Dae’s Mirage Mist Leave-In Conditioner is one of their standout products, and definitely one of my favorite leave-in conditioners. If you want added hydration and heat protection but find that most leave-in conditioners are too thick, creamy, or weigh down your hair, Mirage Mist Leave-In Conditioner is worth it. It’s best for fine to medium hair types that don’t need deep hydration, and lightly tames frizz without leaving a film or making your curls/ waves go flat.
If you want a soft, leave-in conditioner that you can use every day, you’ll love the Dae Mirage Mist Leave-In Conditioner. It’s hydrating without being heavy, and makes your hair noticeably softer.
That said, if you have dry or damaged hair and are looking for something that is going to make your hair feel nourished (not just softer), you may prefer a creamier leave-in conditioner (this one is my go-to).
who it’s best for
As one of the more lightweight leave-in conditioners on the market, Dae Mirage Mist Leave-In fills a specific niche that makes it perfect for certain hair types and scenarios. You will love the way Mirage Mist feels and looks if:
You have normal to slightly dry hair
You have fine to medium have that needs light hydration but is easily weighed down
Want a softer leave-in that won’t build-up over time
Air-dry your hair or use minimal heat styling
Prefer a lightweight formula that isn’t too creamy or heavy
who should avoid it
As a more lightweight leave-in conditioner, Mirage Mist may not be hydrating enough for some hair types. Try this leave-in conditioner instead (also detangles and provides heat protection) if you:
Have very thick, coarse, or extremely dry hair
Heat style your hair with hotter temperatures or multiple steps (a thicker leave-in provides more comprehensive protection)
Need strong frizz control (or live in a super-humid environment)
Are sensitive to strong or fruity fragrances
dae mirage mist leave-in conditioner vs dae cactus fruit leave-in conditioner
If you’ve followed Dae for a while, you know that the brand previously released a Cactus Fruit Leave-In Conditioner prior to Mirage Mist, but it had a few packaging flaws that made it harder to use the product. The brand has said that their Mirage Mist Leave-In Conditioner is not a reformulation but instead a different, unique product. They have yet to bring back the Cactus Fruit Leave-In, so it’s safe to say that even if they’re different, Mirage Mist is the brand’s only leave-in conditioner moving forward.
Mirage Mist has the same fruity scent, but is slightly more milky versus creamy in consistency; the nozzle is updated so it’s less likely to clog. I think the old leave-in was more hydrating, but Mirage Mist is easier to work with and less likely to leave your hair crunchy or sticky. If you liked the old leave-in, give Mirage Mist a try!
dae mirage mist leave-in conditioner FAQ
what hair type is dae mirage mist best for?
It works best for fine, thin, or easily weighed-down hair. If you have thick, coarse, or very dry hair may need something more moisturizing (try this leave-in conditioner instead).
does dae mirage mist help with frizz?
Mirage Mist provides light frizz control and smoothing, but it’s not a heavy-duty anti-frizz product for high humidity or very coarse hair. If you need more support with frizz, pair it with the Dae Cactus Fruit 3-in-1 Styling Cream - it’s probably my favorite product of theirs!
can you use dae mirage mist on dry hair?
Yes, you can use it on dry hair for a light refresh, help detangling, or a smoothing effect. However, it can leave your hair a little crunchy if you don’t work it in all the way, so I recommend applying it on damp hair.
does dae mirage mist contain silicones or sulfates?
Mirage Mist is sulfate-free and does not contain silicones.
how often should you use dae mirage mist?
You can use it daily or after every wash depending on your hair’s needs.
does it weigh hair down?
No, this is one of the more lightweight leave-ins that I’ve used. It has a milky (not creamy) consistency, but is still nourishing.
what does dae mirage mist smell like?
Mirage Mist has Dae’s signature citrus scent, so it’s light, fresh, and clean.
