Their Stargloss Shine Hair Gloss Treatment is a true testament to the brand. dae stargloss shine hair gloss treatment review

Truthfully, I have mixed feelings about the Dae Stargloss Shine Hair Gloss Treatment. It’s a whimsical product that makes pre-wash days more fun; I feel much more put together with the shine of Stargloss compared to the greasy messy bun I typically wear when I use a pre-wash hair oil. It gave me the “Instagram girl” vibe of always being aesthetically cute and coordinated (so to speak), so if you want to add a little aspiration to your self-care routine, Stargloss will do that.

It’s a thicker formula (with shea butter) that takes some getting used to as you apply it, and does feel like it sits on your hair, but feels moisturizing rather than crunchy.

Another standout feature of Stargloss Shine Hair Gloss Treatment is that it has actual glitter in it! Typically I wouldn’t love this, but the glitter is fine, not chunky, and washes out of your hair easily. Plus, it doesn’t leave a mess in the shower, so if you have littles that like glittery hair products, this is much easier to use.

Stargloss is one of Dae’s more expensive products at $48, and is definitely more expensive than I expected, so I’m not sure it’s worth the price. You have to use a decent amount to coat your hair, but I still feel like one bottle will last me at least a few months, especially if I save it for “cute” pre-wash days rather than “treatment” pre-wash days.

In the photo above, I have Stargloss in my hair (I had curled it earlier in the day). It’s a fine line between using enough to coat your hair so you get all the benefits versus feeling greasy/ sticky and having weighed-down hair. I chose less product because after using Stargloss 5+ times, I know this is my “whimsy” product for a little extra TLC while still looking put together, rather than my ultra-nourishing hair treatment.

Overall, Stargloss Shine Hair Gloss Treatment is cute, but not a stand-out. It’d be great for a little girls’ spa day party or if you want to look more put-together on pre-wash days, but if you have dry, damaged hair that needs true nourishment and hydration, stick to a traditional hair oil.

how to use dae stargloss shine treatment

This is a pre-wash treatment, so start with unwashed, dry hair.

  • If you have long or thick hair, I recommend dividing your hair into three larger parts (top, middle, bottom) to start.

  • Part your hair into two-inch sections; I used the same sections I normally use when I curl my hair.

  • Using the applicator tip, apply a generous amount from mid-lengths to ends.

  • Work the product into each section with your fingertips.

  • Leave on for 20 minutes or up to overnight.

  • Rinse out, then shampoo and conditioner as normal.

  • You can then style your hair as usual, or let it air dry.

pros

  • Adds shine

  • Smells SO good (like prickly pear)

  • Glittery and sparkly; this may be a con some but it’s meant to be a fun product and the glitter adds to that

  • Glitter washes out easily

  • Glitter doesn’t make a mess in the shower

  • Hair felt softer afterwards

cons

  • Harder to use than a leave-in conditioner or pre-wash oil/ serum

  • Thick formula means you’ll probably want to put your hair in a bun or pony until you wash it out or your hair looks a little greasy

  • Subtle results; not as dramatic as a pre-wash oil/ serum

    • Also feels like you have to rinse so thoroughly that it kind of cancels out the hydration

  • Pricey at $44

  • More of a cute product than functional

  • May weigh down fine hair, especially if you don’t rinse it all the way out

  • Hair didn’t feel deeply hydrated afterwards

  • Not a traditional gloss; more temporary

key ingredients

Stargloss Shine Hair Gloss Treatment features a few of desert-based Dae’s signature ingredients:

  • Prickly Pear Seed Oil - conditions hair; adds shine and softness

  • Moringa Seed Oil - boosts keratin and restores moisture

  • Shea Butter - moisturizes hair, tames frizz, and repairs damage

is dae stargloss shine treatment worth it?

The Dae Stargloss Shine Hair Gloss Treatment is worth it if you want to add fun or whimsical to your self-care or haircare routine. It is not the most functional or results-driven treatment; you will get better results from a traditional pre-wash hair oil if you want hydration, or shine-enhancing spray or in-shower gloss for shine and brightness.

Stargloss Shine Treatment adds subtle glitter to your hair and is a little easier to work with than traditional pre-wash treatments. I felt a lot cuter running errands with Stargloss in my hair than a greasy messy bun, but I prefer the results from a traditional oil.

Also, you do have to use quite a bit to coat your hair, so even though you get a good amount of product in one 6oz tube, the $44 price is still a little steep if you have thick or long hair.

Dae Stargloss Shine Hair Gloss Treatment is worth it if you like aesthetic haircare products and want to feel cute. If you want noticeable, lasting results and have extra dry or damaged hair, it’s not the best option.

who it’s best for

The Dae Stargloss Shine Hair Gloss Treatment is best for those who want a fun pre-wash treatment. This product is more about aesthetic than results, so it’s better for self-care days, when you want to feel cute, or want a little more whimsical in your life. It adds glitter and can make a ponytail or bun feel more fun and cute, but isn’t necessarily the most hydrating or nourishing treatment.

I also think Stargloss would be great for little girls because it has glitter yet isn’t drying or messy as adding glitter to gel or hairspray. The glitter is subtle yet noticeable, and doesn’t make a mess in the shower. I love that I can be the “fun cousin” and apply this to my little cousins’ hair without making a mess, and I don’t have to worry about the glitter migrating and stinging sensitive scalps or harming their eyes.

who should avoid it

The Stargloss Shine Hair Gloss Treatment might not work for you if:

  • You have dry or damaged hair that needs deep nourishment

  • You have fine hair that is easily weighed down

  • You hate glitter

  • You don’t like thick formulas

  • You want long-term shine

dae stargloss shine treatment vs hair oil

The Dae Stargloss Shine Hair Gloss Treatment is thicker than a pre-wash hair oil. It’s closer to a body butter as far as texture goes (thanks to the shea butter) so it almost feels like it sits on the hair, whereas hair oils absorb easier. Traditional pre-wash hair oils are more lightweight, and a little goes a long way, whereas you have to use a good amount of Stargloss to coat your hair.

I recommend hair oil if your hair is damaged, you deal with breakage, or you want a deeply hydrating pre-wash treatment.

dae stargloss shine treatment vs pre-shampoo treatment

The Dae Stargloss Shine Hair Gloss Treatment is a pre-wash treatment, but it’s more fun (and thus less impactful) than other pre-wash treatments you may be used to. It does hydrate, but isn’t as functional as other formulas on the market. This adds glitter and shine so your hair looks cuter while it’s in, but the results post-wash aren’t as dramatic.

If you don’t like the feeling of a greasy bun and want something more put-together for a pre-wash treatment, you’ll love Stargloss. If your focus is on deep hydration and nourishment, try this pre-wash hair oil instead.

dae stargloss shine treatment vs brazilian blowout

The Dae Stargloss Shine Hair Gloss Treatment doesn’t really compare to a Brazilian Blowout; they’re two completely different treatments. A Brazilian Blowout is more expensive, done in a salon by a professional, and results last 10-12 weeks. It does a better job of fighting frizz and makes your hair more manageable.

On the other hand, Stargloss is a temporary at-home treatment you can do yourself; the shine only lasts a day or two and is much more subtle. Your hair feels a bit greasy while it’s in, so in that sense, your hair is harder to manage. It does make your hair softer afterwards, but the results are not dramatic.

See Stargloss as a fun at-home treatment you can do weekly; a Brazilian Blowout is better if you want to seriously attack frizz and add shine.
