Davines Shampoo Review
It’s no secret - I’m a huge Davines fan. It’s one of the few haircare brands that I think delivers consistent quality, actually improves the texture, appearance, and health of your hair, and is worth the money. Anytime I venture away and try a new shampoo, I notice a clear change in my hair once I go back to my trusted Davines.
Choosing the right shampoo can be tricky, though, and since Davines isn’t the cheapest, you want to make sure you’re picking the right one for your hair type and hair goals. I’ve been fortunate enough to try most of them over the years, and aside from one that legitimately torched my hair (more on that later), you really can’t go wrong with any of their shampoos. Today I’m sharing my tried-and-true favorites - whether you want to heal damage, add hydration, get a gloss-like shiny finish, or want a shampoo that can do it all, these are the best of the best.
best davines shampoos
nounou
The OG, classic Davines shampoo. NouNou is for dry/ dehydrated hair, but I really love it for all hair types. It’s got a creamy texture, but is still lightweight so it won’t weigh down fine hair. The tomato extract restores damage, and the wheat protein helps to strengthen and nourish. NouNou makes my hair feel clean (even after the gym or a big pool day) without stripping it, and it’s color-safe. It’s sulfate-free, and I love to travel with this if I know I’ll be in a drier or more polluted environment. The scent is earthy yet light; it’s perfect for those who are picky because it’s not too sweet, fruity, or woodsy. It’s subtle and won’t give you a headache.
minu
My second favorite, Minu is a spa treatment in a bottle. The minty fragrance is so luxurious but not overpowering; I love to use Minu when I’m having a bad day or when my hair needs a little extra TLC. The caper blossom extract is full of antioxidants that protect your color. It’s a little more gel-like than NouNou, but still really easy to lather in your hair without being harsh. Because this adds shine and protects your color, I also like to travel with it; you never know how hotel water will affect your hair, so having that extra step to protect your highlights is key.
melu
If you have long hair, fragile hair, or are prone to breakage, this shampoo will be your new best friend. It’s like a hug for your hair; the lentil seed extract is full of amino acids that will strengthen your hair and prevent breakage. Lots of shampoos promise that, but this is the only one that really feels like it delivers. I've always been a little wary of how much hair I lose in the shower (no matter how often my stylist reassures me that it’s normal), and I do notice that I have less breakage/ fallout when I use this shampoo. Melu is also hydrating without weighing down your hair, which is key when you have fine, long strands like I do.
solu
I’m a big believer that everyone needs a detox shampoo. You may only need to use it 1x a month, so it’s worth it to get a good one as the bottle will last you forever. Lots of detox shampoos strip your hair, leave it feeling like straw, damage your color, and can cause breakage, but Solu is SO good. The buckwheat extract works to purify your hair without stripping it; I think more brands should incorporate, it to be honest. While Solu does contain sulfates, they’re much more mild than what other brands use, and you won’t damage your hair since you don’t use this frequently. This lathers into a beautiful, lightweight foam so you’re going to feel like you’re getting a good, deep clean. I always use this after traveling or a couple days spent at the beach/ pool. Highly recommend!
heart of glass silkening shampoo
If you have blonde hair and want to keep your color fresh without worrying about overturning it, this shampoo is a dream. It’s not a true blue or purple; it’s a nice combo between the two so it will cancel out all types of brassiness. That being said, this is more of a color enhancer rather than a toner. I love that because it’s going to really make your blonde hair bright but you don’t have to worry about overtoning it and leaving a purple/ blue tint behind. Unlike other toning shampoos, this also won’t dry out your hair. Heart of Glass has a silky, gel-like texture that’s easy to work through your hair, and the vegan keratin helps to strengthen your hair without leaving a yucky film behind. The scent is a little floral/ powdery for my liking, but it’s worth it for the results you get. Anytime I use this shampoo, my color looks refreshed, even if it’s been weeks since I got it done.
oi nourishing shampoo
My go-to recommendation for dull or frizzy hair, Oi is what I call “a salon in a bottle.” It’s going to make your hair so vibrant, shiny, bouncy, and sleek without leaving a film or product buildup. The roucou oil has antioxidants that make your hair noticeably shinier, and this almost feels like a pre-conditioning treatment rather than a shampoo. It’s rich, creamy, and makes your hair SO soft. The Oi scent isn’t for everyone, though; it’s stronger than other Davines scents and leans masculine - think woodsy, sharp notes. I don’t use it daily as the scent isn’t my favorite, but when I want shine, this shampoo is absolutely worth it (especially if I’m fighting lots of humidity).
And then as far as one Davines shampoo I would advise against… I hate to say it, but Naturaltech REPLUMPING Shampoo torched my hair. I noticed more breakage in the shower (and out), and my hair felt SO greasy no matter how often I washed it. It seemed like this shampoo stripped my hair, especially towards the ends, but didn’t apply that same cleansing power to my roots. It look quite a few months (and the superpowers of this hair mask) to get my hair back to normal. So while lots of people recommend it and love it, I personally advise against it - especially since there are so many other great shampoos in the Davines lineup.
