Hormone Balancing Smoothie

While I’m not a nutritionist or holistic health expert, I’ve experienced positive effects since incorporating maca into my diet. Maca is a root vegetable, but typically comes in a power form and is known for hormone balancing and providing an energy boost. It has a mild, slightly nutty taste, so it’s one of those supplements that you can sneak into smoothies, power bowls, protein shakes easily without altering the flavor or texture.

I’ve definitely shared a few more labor-intensive smoothies (read: Erewhon dupes) on my website before, but this one is so simple and you probably already have the ingredients at home. I’m not the biggest fan of fruit, so I keep it simple with a banana, but feel free to swap that out for strawberries or blueberries. Lastly, the measurements included are just to guide you; don’t feel like you need to break out measuring cups and follow them exactly.

As always consult your doctor or nutritionist if you have any questions or before introducing supplements into your diet, but if you do try this, I hope you enjoy it.

hormone-balancing smoothie

ingredients

Makes one smoothie

  • 1 banana (doesn’t have to be frozen)

  • 2 tablespoons peanut, almond, or cashew butter

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 tablespoon maca powder

  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I prefer chocolate with this recipe, but vanilla works, too)

  • small handful of cacao nibs (plus a little extra if you’d like to top your smoothie)

  • 1/2 cup almond or oat milk

  • 1/2 cup ice (5-6 cubes)

to prepare:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth.

  2. Serve immediately; the smoothie will lose its texture if you leave it in the fridge for too long.
