Can You Bring Water Into Petco Park? (Rules + Tips)

One of the things I appreciate most about Petco Park is that while they’re a for-profit venue, they understand that events can be costly and try to allow for compromises when it comes to bringing your own food and water into the park.

That said, while you can bring water into Petco Park, there are a few important rules to know before you go.

PS: I’m not a Petco Park spokesperson or official. Refer to their website for the most up-to-date information. I am simply sharing what has worked for me and what I’ve learned over the years.

can you bring water into petco park?

For a quick cheat sheet:

  • Sealed plastic water bottles are allowed.

  • Reusable bottles may be allowed if they’re empty.

  • No outside alcohol or flavored drinks are allowed.

  • Glass containers are not allowed, even if they’re filled with water.

bringing sealed water bottles

This is the easiest, safest, no-fuss option when it comes to bringing your own water into Petco Park.

  • Must be factory sealed.

    • Save any electrolytes or flavoring packs and bring them in separately, then mix after you get past security.

  • It’s typically limited to standard-sized bottles - no gallon jugs, etc.

Even if you don’t think you’ll get thirsty, I highly recommend bringing your own water into Petco, especially during the hot summer months. If you’re trying to save money, this is one of the simplest things you can do and is an easy way to avoid paying stadium prices on something that isn’t “fun” or worth the higher cost.

can you bring a reusable water bottle?

Yes, but it usually needs to be:

  • Empty when entering

  • Non-glass

Once inside, you can fill it at water stations or fountains.

Reusable bottles are subject to inspection and security’s discretion, so they’re a little “riskier” (for lack of a better word) than a plastic bottle.

what you can’t bring

Avoid bringing:

  • Open bottles

  • Alcohol

  • Soda or flavored drinks from outside

  • Glass containers

These will likely be taken at the gate.

why bringing water is worth it

Buying drinks inside the stadium adds up quickly.

Bringing your own water saves money, keeps you hydrated during long games, and reduces how often you need to leave your seat.

Even if you don’t think you’ll get thirsty, I’ve found you often have to talk louder at the game and having water can help you not lose your voice. Also the seats that face the sun can be brutal in the summer months, so bring a water bottle even if you don’t think you’ll need it.

pro tips for game day

Bring a regular-sized plastic water bottle as well as your own snacks (yes, you can Bring Food into Petco Park) to save money. This frees up your budget for funner, specialty foods, snacks, or souvenirs.
