Davines Liquid Luster Review

I’m always trying out new hair products and looking for the best, low-maintenance options that are truly worth the money. My hair stylist recently introduced me to the Davines Liquid Luster, which is marketed as a weightless treatment that adds instant shine and softness.

As someone with lots of highlights and color-treated hair, I spend a lot of time combating brassiness, but I tend to envy the shine that comes with a rich, darker hair color, and this product seemed like it could give me what I felt I was lacking so I was definitely excited to try it out.

how to use davines liquid luster

  • Before you get in the shower, know that this product has a water-like consistency, even thinner than a shampoo. To avoid wasting product, I recommend pre-measuring out how much you’ll need and putting it in a little container so you can just pour it directly on your hair without worrying about using too much or too little. Use 1 dose (20ml) for short hair and 2 doses (40ml) for long hair.

  • After you shampoo, squeeze out the extra water from your hair and then apply the proper dosage of the Liquid Lustre in sections, focusing more on the mid-length through to your ends (avoiding the roots). You don’t need to apply conditioner afterwards.

  • I sectioned my hair into thirds horizontally like I do when I curl it - top, middle, bottom, rather than separating vertically because it’s easier.

  • If you just got your hair colored, my hair stylist said you can use this the next time you shampoo. As someone who washes her hair every day, I usually wait about a week after getting it colored to use this.

pros

  • Davines Liquid Luster did give my hair noticeable shine and made it super soft, just like it promised.

  • You get to wash this out immediately; it doesn’t have to sit on your hair for a long time so it’s perfect if you’re in a rush or want a quick shine treatment.

  • Unlike a conditioner or a deep repair mask, this doesn’t weigh down your hair or leave a film. It’s a watery formula and super lightweight, perfect for fine hair.

cons

  • This product is pricey at $53 a bottle and not the kind of product where you can use less than the suggested amount. As someone with long hair, I found I needed to use a little more than what the bottle said. There are 300 total ml in the bottle, and the directions say to use 20ml for short hair and 40ml for long hair – so you’ll get approximately 15 uses out of the bottle for short hair and 7 uses for long hair if you follow the recommended amounts.

  • The scent is a little stronger than I personally like, but that is true for most of Davines’ Oi products. it’s also a more masculine scent; I think you’ll either love it or hate it, to be honest.

is davines liquid luster worth it?

If you have thinner hair that gets weighed down by heavy masks, I think Davines Liquid Luster is the perfect product for you - it’ll deliver shine and soften your hair without weighing it down. My hair can handle a thicker product, so I view this more as an occasional treat (especially because it’s $53) rather than a weekly non-negotiable. I’ll definitely be using this for special occasions and events, but this isn’t replacing my deep conditioning mask as that’s more cost-effective for me.
