Davines Oi All in One Milk vs Su Milk

Davines is a sustainable haircare brand known for high-quality hair products that deliver salon-like results; they blend science with nature to create easy-to-use products for all hair types. I’ve loved the brand for years, and one of the things I like the most about the brand is that they create very specific product lines; you can find a complete collection under one “scent” umbrella (for lack of better terms) that addresses a certain problem, whether it’s dryness, frizz, UV damage, or brassiness.

I generally enjoy the Davines Oi All in One Milk (check out my full review and a few cheaper dupes), but the Su Hair Milk recently caught my eye. I wasn’t sure if the brand created a new scent for their traditional leave-in treatment, or if the Su Hair Milk had a different formulation.

Turns out, Su Hair Milk is similar, but also quite different. It provides UV protection, among other benefits. Now that I’ve tried and used both Su Hair Milk and the Oi All in One Milk for a while, I’m sharing a full product review and comparison. For a list of pros, cons, key differences and similarities, as well as a full breakdown to help figure out which one is ultimately better, keep reading.

davines oi all in one milk review

I have a full review of the Davines Oi All in One Milk, but for a tl;dr: I like it, but it’s not my #1 favorite, can’t-live-without-it hair product. While it does reduce frizz, add softness and shine, detangles, and serves as a heat protectant, I find it to be a little too expensive and I don’t love the scent.

All of Davines’ Oi products have the same scent, and it’s polarizing to say the least. Oi has a sharp, masculine scent that you’ll love or hate; I love masculine scents typically, but recommend testing this out in person before you blind-buy.

It’s also a little expensive at $45 per bottle. There are similar leave-in conditioning products on the market that work just as well but are a little cheaper, but if you have dry, damaged hair, get it highlighted or bleached regularly, or struggle with lots of frizz and split ends, Davines Oi All in One Milk is definitely worth it. You’ll notice a difference after the first use, as well as in the long run, in regards to the overall health of your hair.

how to use davines oi all in one milk

  • Apply 10-15 sprays of the Davines Oi All in One Milk to freshly washed, towel-dried but still damp hair. In my experience, making sure your hair is still damp is key. If it’s too wet, the product doesn’t hold as well, and if your hair is too dry, you can end up with a crunchy texture.

  • I personally recommend spraying the Oi All in One Milk into your hands and then working it through your hair. This made for an easier application for me, but you can also spray directly.

  • Let your hair air dry, or you can also blow dry it. It’s a heat protectant, so that saves you an extra product/ step if you heat style your hair.

pros

  • Leaves your hair soft, hydrated, and shiny.

  • Also works as a heat protectant and detangler.

  • Tames frizz.

  • Color-safe.

  • Vegan and cruelty-free.

cons

  • Scent - it’s strong and masculine. I’m extra-sensitive to fragrance on migraine days, and it’s a bummer I can’t really use this product on those days.

  • If you use too much or use it on dry hair, it can make your hair crunchy/ sticky.

  • The nozzle isn’t super functional; I recommend spraying into your hands rather than directly onto hair.

davines oi all in one milk dupes

I go into a lot of detail breaking down price per ounce on my OG Davines Oi All in One Milk Review post, but my top two dupes would have to be:

It’s a 10 Haircare Miracle Leave-In Product - A cheaper drugstore dupe, although it’s more expensive than I remember it being back in middle school when I first started using this product. It’s a very similar consistency, but a much milder scent. It’s also cruelty-free like the All in One Milk, but it does contain behentrimonium chloride, which can cause build-up over time, so if you use this, make sure to incorporate a clarifying shampoo every few weeks.

Ceremonia Guava Hydrating Leave-In Conditioner - Lightweight but intensely hydrating, this works well on all hair types (including curly and coily) and provides heat protection without weighing your hair down. The scent is more of an herbal guava than sugary-sweet, which I enjoy. It makes your hair shine without feeling greasy, and my mom also loves how this tames her wiry grey hair without weighing it down.

davines su hair milk review

The Davines Su Hair Milk is similar, but different. You don’t get heat protection from this product, but it provides UV protection while nourishing and hydrating your hair, making it a perfect summer day haircare staple. I love to apply this before spending the day outside or swimming, especially since pools/ salt water can really dry out your hair. One key benefit of Su Hair Milk is that it protects your hair color against UV rays. We spend so much on highlights and toners; finding a product that not just prioritizes hair health but also color quality makes this a true stand-out.

Like Oi All in One Milk, this also reduces frizz and while it doesn’t provide as much shine, it helps me look and feel a little more put-together and less beach bum, if you know what I mean.

You get the same amount of product in both hair milks, but Su Hair Milk is $5 cheaper. I also love that this has a mild, beachy scent. If you don’t like the Oi scent, you should definitely try Su Hair Milk instead.

how to use davines su hair milk

  • For UV protection, apply 5-15 pumps to wet or dry hair, focusing on mid-length to the ends.

    • I’ve also applied a spray to my roots since I have a sensitive scalp. This doesn’t double as a sunscreen, but it does prevent my scalp from drying out and doesn’t weigh my hair down.

  • Start small! Apply 1 pump if you have thin or fine hair; maybe 2-3 if you have thick, coarse hair. A little goes a LONG way, and too much product can make your hair greasy and weigh it down.

  • Apply to freshly washed, towel-dried hair, focusing mostly on mid-lengths to ends. This doesn’t work as a heat protectant, so add a pump of that, but you can then blow-dry your hair or let it air dry.

  • You can also apply this as a finishing product to the lengths and ends of your hair (what I prefer to do).

pros

  • Reduces frizz.

  • Provides UV protection, especially for color-treated hair.

  • Also works as a leave-in conditioner.

  • Leaves your hair soft, hydrated, and shiny.

  • Moisturizes and nourishes hair.

  • Cheaper than the Oi All in One Milk.

  • Mild, beachy scent.

  • Vegan and cruelty-free.

cons

  • Doesn’t double as SPF for your scalp.

  • Not a heat protectant like the Oi All in One Milk.

  • A little harder to find online.

davines su hair milk

Moroccanoil Protect and Prevent Spray - Another UV protectant spray, the Protect and Prevent Spray also works as a heat protectant, so you get an extra perk compared to Su Milk. The formula is similar, if a little lighter, but I wish the packaging was different as the nozzle clogs somewhat easily. It’s priced fairly; $32 for 5.4 ounces, putting it at around $5.93 per ounce (whereas Su Milk is $8.77 per ounce).

Ceremonia Guava Rescue Spray - My top alternative to Su Milk, the Guava Rescue Spray is quickly becoming one of my favorite leave-ins. It’s lightweight but also detangles, works as a heat protectant, and reduces frizz. Perfect for all hair types, this clean-beauty leave-in is so good. Price wise, this retails for $27 and is essentially half the price of Su Milk when you break it down per ounce ($4.03 vs $8.77). Full disclosure: when I run out of my Su Hair Milk, I’ll switch over to Ceremonia Guava Rescue Spray instead.

which is better: davines oi all in one milk vs su hair milk?

While both products seem similar, there are a few key differences. If you’re on the fence between the Davines Oi All in One Milk and Su Hair Milk, here’s my full cheat sheet for you:

  • Both products are vegan.

  • Both products tame frizz, make your hair super soft, and nourish all hair types.

  • Oi All in One Milk has a sharp, masculine scent whereas Su Hair Milk has a mild, beachy scent.

  • Price wise, Su Hair Milk is cheaper. Both products give you 4.56 oz of product, but the Oi All in One Milk retails for $45 and Su Hair Milk retails for $40.

  • Oi All in One Milk also works as a heat protectant, but does not give you UV protection.

  • Su Hair Milk provides UV protection but not heat protection (like heat styling).

  • If you’re on a budget and can only get one, get the Oi All in One Milk. Not just saying that because of the price breakdown; I think there are better heat protectants on the market, but the UV protection SU Hair Milk gives you while also being color-safe is key.

  • Both have a creamy, lightweight leave-in conditioner texture.

  • Both work for all hair types.

  • If you’re outside a lot (especially in the summer) get Su Hair Milk. Double recommend if your hair also tangles easily.

  • If you want a more polished, shiny finish, get All in One Milk.

  • If you struggle with extreme breakage or dryness, I’d recommend the Oi All in One Milk for everyday use; it’s slightly more nourishing.

  • If you’re more low maintenance and want a product that is easy to incorporate into your routine, get Oi All in One Milk, since Su Hair Milk doesn’t provide heat protection.

Ultimate recommendation for you: get Oi All in One Milk if you heat style your hair a lot. Get Su Hair Milk (or one of the dupes) if you are outside/ live a more active lifestyle. I recommend Oi All in One Milk for year-round usage, but Su Hair Milk is a true savior during the summer, especially as someone with highlights that can get brassy and dry easily.
