Travel Skincare Routine for Dry, Sensitive Skin

I posted my skincare routine not too long ago, but I wanted to share a round-up of the essentials that I take with me anytime I travel. While I try to pack lightly, the change in climate and hotel heating/ air tend to send my sensitive skin into overdrive, so I focus on hydrating products that protect my skin barrier, soothe irritation, minimize any redness, and prevent breakouts/ congestion from the city smog or plane travel.

travel skincare essentials for dry sensitive skin

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm - This is the best cleansing balm on the market, and while it isn’t a ‘clean beauty’ product, it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin and really gets the job done, especially since I typically wear more makeup than usual when I travel. I previously used the Farmacy Clearly Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm (which is a clean product) but it leaves a film and doesn’t fully remove mascara, so I highly recommend the Elemis balm instead.

SkinMedica AHA/ BHA Exfoliating Cleanser - My go-to cleanser. This is a chemical exfoliant and gets deep into your pores to remove any irritants or pollutants that can clog your skin when you travel.

Obagi Medical Hydrate Luxe Moisturizer - My skin needs extra hydration when I travel, especially because the hotel AC/ heater seems to dry my skin out throughout the night. This is a thicker version of my favorite moisturizer, but it doesn’t leave a greasy residue or white cast. If I have any dry patches, I’ll use this in the morning as well to prep my skin before applying makeup.

First Aid Beauty FAB Skin Lab Retinol Eye Cream with Triple Hyaluronic Acid - I tend to avoid retinols when I travel as my skin is already sensitive and I don’t want to make it worse, but this formula is gentle and hydrating. I wake up looking rested and refreshed, and it truly soothes my eye area; I never travel without it.

Basic Organics Vitamin E Ointment - Super hydrating, slightly thicker than Neosporin, and it has a faint cinnamon scent. I use this on dry patches and haven’t broken out from it. My hands also tend to get so dry from washing them even more frequently when I travel, so I love applying this to my cuticles before bed to prevent any cracks or cuts. You can also apply this to your feet before putting on fuzzy socks and you’ll wake up with extra hydrated, soft skin.

Yonka Booster Defense+ - Oils truly transform your skincare routine (even if you have oily skin), and they’re non-negotiable to me when it comes to travel. This facial oil is lightweight, smells like a fancy spa without being overpowering, and absorbs quickly. The formula is intended to protect your skin from pollutants, so I usually start my morning skincare routine with this, but I’ll also add it in the evening - the more hydration, the better.

LanoLips 101 Ointment Multi-Balm - The only lip product you need in your travel bag. This lasts all night, keeps my lips hydrated, and I don’t have to re-apply throughout the day. If you like a colored balm, they also sell tinted versions that are really pretty.
