Best Brunch in Oceanside

Breakfast might be considered the most important meal of the day, but brunch is arguably more fun. Whether you’re looking for something that’s casual yet flavorful, Instagrammable (food and vibe), or somewhere that can serve a large party (plus kids) with ease, Oceanside has some incredible brunch spots. Keep reading for my best recommendations (as a local), including my favorite hidden gems.

best brunch in oceanside

coffee shops/ quick brunch

Pannikin - Love the decor and vibe of this shop; it’s big and roomy with indoor and outdoor seating. More importantly, it’s ideal for those who want a quick bite that’s still substantial. The breakfast sandwiches are always fresh; if you want something sweet, the Nutella toast is really good (but can be a little hard to cut). There’s also plenty of pastries if you want to grab and go. Coffee-wise, their drinks are consistent and the chai is authentic; you can tell it’s made from tea, not a powder or syrup.

Communal - The most “aesthetic” coffee shop in Oceanside, but the coffee is what really wins you over. The food is fresh and made to order. The tables have QR codes so you don’t have to lose your seat to order, which is nice if you are traveling with littles.

O’Side Strand Cafe - Somewhat hidden order-up food truck in the corner of Tyson Park, yet within steps of the beach. Ideal if you want something quick by the water; their smoothies, waffles, and sandwiches are fantastic.

cute brunch

The Plot - Vegan hotspot that every foodie will love (even if you aren’t vegan!). Warm atmosphere, genuine service, and the food is so good (and fresh, as they have a garden on-site) it feels more like an experience than a meal. Get there early for the sourdough pancake, though the breakfast bowl is another local favorite. Open daily, but brunch is only available on the weekends. Also closed from 3-4PM to prepare for dinner service.

Toasted Gastrobrunch - Cute but also fun and lively, this is a great spot for girls’ brunch, friend meetups, or larger family gatherings. Always busy but service is quick and friendly, plus the outdoor patio is a prime spot for people watching. The menu is full of breakfast staples, and the mimosa flight is always popular.

for families, large groups, and parties

Don’s Country Kitchen - Best breakfast in town. Attentive service, portions are huge, and it’s a hearty breakfast that will keep you full for hours. Parking is rough; I recommend street parking and then walking a block or two to the restaurant as the lot is super tiny.

Beach Break Cafe - Classic breakfast diner just blocks from the beach. Great service, straightforward food. Order a coffee cake for the table (or yourself); it’s delicious.

Local Tap House (LTH) - Excellent food and a lively atmosphere (can get loud). Elevated American menu that has something for everyone; the short rib sandwich is a local favorite.

Come on Over Cafe - Hidden gem. Located in an industrial area, so it’s a drive but worth it. Impeccable service, and their sandwiches are rightfully top-ranked on Yelp.

with a view

Stratford at the Harbor - Small and can get noisy, but right on the harbor. Informal; you order at the counter then seat yourself. Line moves quick, and the food is fresh and fairly portioned.

As a local, I recommending skipping High/ Low (now called The Cafe). The view is great, everything else is not.
