Best Coffee Shops in Temecula

As someone who grew up in Temecula, it’s been fun to see the town evolve over the years and become home to some incredible coffee shops. Temecula can feel a little too strip-mall-centric, so seeing people embrace small businesses and authentic flavors has been really special. While you can still find a Starbucks on almost every corner, there’s also plenty of locally owned coffee shops worthy of your support. That said, I struggle to justify spending $10 on a latte, so it has to taste genuinely good for me to feel like it’s worth it.

I’ve spent the last few years playing tourist in Temecula, and have gotten a feel for all of the different coffee shops, factoring in vibe, menu, quality, and flavor to identify the best of the best. Whether you want a flavorful latte, a pastry (or breakfast) to go with your chai, somewhere with lots of tables to hang out, or a roastery with a picture-perfect aesthetic, these are the best coffee shops in Temecula.

best coffee shops in temecula

The Press Espresso - The best coffee shop in Temecula that checks all the boxes - ambiance, vibe, knowledgeable baristas, and of course, incredibly high-quality coffee. This local shop has grown to a few locations, and each is slightly unique yet still reliable for a well-crafted drink. They add seasonal and specialty drinks often, but you can always count on the classics to be well-done and served correctly. Their chai is also the perfect mix of sweet and spice; I can never order just one. Location breakdown:

  • Old Town - My personal favorite; this is located right in the heart of Old Town which makes it convenient to stop at as you walk around the shops and explore. The shop itself is tiny, but the outdoor tables get great natural light in the morning, and even amongst the hustle and bustle of Old Town, it has a chill yet friendly vibe.

  • Vail Headquarters - Convenient on your way into (or out of) wine country. It can get crowded on the weekends, but if you want to sit outside and enjoy your coffee (or let the kids run around), this location is great.

  • Ynez - A little more suburban as it’s located in a strip mall, but it’s closer to the Promenade Mall if you want a break from Old Town or wine country. This location is always at least a little busy, but there’s indoor and outdoor seating.

Eat Marketplace - This is primarily known as a farm-to-table restaurant, but they have an organic espresso bar for quick service and small pastries. Go here if you want a baked good with your coffee, especially if you have dietary restrictions as there are lots of vegan, paleo, and gluten-free options that still taste amazing. You can’t go wrong with their cold brew, but if you want a unique latte they have specialty syrups like rose, maca honey, lavender, and chocolate ganache. PS: they’re also one of my favorite brunch spots if you want something more substantial.

Our Matcha Place - Matcha may be more popular than ever, but that doesn’t mean that you can always find high-quality options. Our Matcha Place is not only super cute, but their matcha is 10/10. They offer traditional ceremonial grade lattes as well as fun specialties like banana cream matcha, roasted matcha, and matcha soft serve. You can add boosts like collagen peptides, CBD, and manuka honey, and they offer other drinks like lemonade if you want to switch it up. The vibe is totally girly and cute with whimsical pink decor; be ready to snap a photo (or five). Keep in mind that they play music pretty loud, but it’s tucked behind a little nook so it’s less likely to get as crowded as Press or some of the other shops I’ve mentioned.

Le Coffee Shop - A local favorite, this is the place to go if you want food, not just coffee. There’s tons of indoor and outdoor seating, service is prompt, and they offer delicious traditional French pastries to go with their coffee and tea. Don’t sleep on their almond croissant. Their chai is a little sweet for my liking, but I love that their hot drinks are actually hot and freshly brewed.

The Crafted Scone - It’s common for coffee shops to excel at either the coffee or the pastries; this is one of the few that does both well. No stale scones here; they’re made fresh daily and you can truly taste a difference. I love their chai, but their coffee is always pretty consistent. The shop looks tiny from the outside, but there’s quite a few tables inside and outside, plus a larger table inside that is perfect for bigger groups.

Little Goat Kitchen and Bakeshop - A little out of the way from Old Town and wine country, but I’m mentioning it because their sister restaurant, Goat and Vine, can get insanely crowded and this is a wonderful way to experience their food without the long wait, especially if you’re more of a morning person. Their espresso bar is limited to the classics, but their pastries are made fresh daily, so I recommend it if you have kids (though there’s not really anywhere for them to play). Arrive at/ after 11am if you want to order a pizza (what they’re known for) or some of their lunch specials.

Temecula Grind House - If you’re all about flavor and not aesthetic, go here. This is a true small town coffee shop and while you won’t get the best Instagram photos here, they’re a powerhouse when it comes to quality coffee. A nice place to stop on your way into wine country, it’s a local favorite. Expect the tables to get full quickly, but the lines move quickly.
