best overall restaurants in oceanside, california
allmine - If you want good service, a high-quality meal, an intimate setting, and to dine like a local, go here. The lasagna has gone viral for a reason, but I also love their pizzas. It’s a tiny spot just off Coast Highway, and
Dija Mara - Hole-in-the-wall hidden gem with Balinese-inspired small plates. A go-to by locals for date night, this spot is cozy but not stuffy. If you want a beachy ambiance with crafted dishes and less tourist interaction, go here.
333 Pacific - Oceanside isn’t known for their fine dining; this is the best upscale option. Beautiful views of the pier and sunset, they will go out of their way to help you celebrate a special occasion and the menu has the refined staples you want - steak, fish, craft cocktails, etc.
Craft Coast Tacos & Beer - If you want a good, authentic taco, go here. I’ve tried all the spots and this is the one that is consistently good. Flavorful, fairly priced, and just a few blocks from the beach, it’s loved by locals and tourists alike. Get the birria!
Evaga - Best sit-down Mexican food. A true hidden gem some locals still don’t know about, it’s a little more inland but worth the drive. Food is fresh, service is impeccable, and prices are fair. You won’t be disappointed!
The Plot - I think this place is the most underrated restaurant in Oceanside. People knock it because it’s vegan, but I promise you won’t miss it (I’m not vegan and a pretty picky eater but have loved everything I’ve tried here). Everything is scratch-made and they have a garden on-site for ultimate freshness; you can taste a difference. Whether you go for brunch, dinner, dessert, or drinks, you won’t be disappointed.
Tanner’s Prime Burgers - On the Michelin guide, and there’s always a line here so it’s clearly worth the wait. A little pricey for a burger joint where you order at the counter, but everything is cooked in tallow with the freshest ingredients. There are In-N-Outs all over nowadays; there’s only one Tanner’s.
best breakfast and brunch restaurants in oceanside
Don’s Country Kitchen - Best breakfast in town. Attentive service, portions are huge, and it’s a hearty breakfast that will keep you full for hours. The parking lot is tiny and kinda brutal; I recommend street parking and then walking a block or two to the restaurant instead. Tip: order the cinnamon roll without butter (it’s too much; the icing is plenty!).
Beach Break Cafe - Classic breakfast diner just blocks from the beach. Great service, incredible food. Order a coffee cake for the table (or yourself); it’s delicious. It can get crowded, but service is quick and there’s something for everyone - sweet, savory, classics, and local specialties (like seafood omelettes).
The Plot - Brunch is only served on the weekends, but it’s worth the stop. The sourdough pancake and breakfast bowl are 10/10, plus there’s a great selection of cocktails and mocktails.
Toasted Gastropub - The staple brunch spot. Cute and elevated; perfect for girls brunch, family celebrations, big groups, and casual meet-ups with friends. The mimosa flight is a fun favorite, and while it can be loud and crowded, if you want a traditional brunch menu with a modern atmosphere located downtown/ near the pier, this is the place to go.
Stratford at the Harbor - Small spot on the harbor that can get noisy; order at the counter then seat yourself. Line moves quick, and the food is fresh and fairly portioned.
Pannakin - More coffee shop than restaurant, but if you want something quick that’s more substantial than a bagel, go here. Love the Nutella toast, and unlike some restaurants, the coffee is consistently good.

best seafood restaurants in oceanside
Harbor Fish and Chips - Newer, but already super popular. They have a sister spot in Encinitas that is always busy for a reason. Fresh fish, casual vibe, and great service.
Oceanside Fish Shop - Right on the harbor, so if you want somewhere with a view, go here. Casual, but some of the best no-frills fish and chips you’ll find. They have a kids menu, outdoor seating, and reasonable prices.
333 Pacific - Fancy sit-down, but if you want something a little more put-together and upscale, go here. Less of a wait, more intimate, and sunset views make it worth the higher price. You can’t go wrong with anything here - scallops, calamari, lobster - and there is something for everyone.
Wrench and Rodent Seabasstropub - Sushi, but I’m including it here. Fresh, high-quality sushi with a menu full of creative twists and classic favorites. It’s eclectic, but not elitist.
best casual restaurants in oceanside
Local Tap House (LTH) - Excellent food and a lively atmosphere (can get loud). Elevated American menu that has something for everyone; the short rib sandwich is a local favorite. If you want casual but sit-down, this is the place to go.
Tanner’s Prime Burgers - Rightfully on the Michelin Guide (no star yet), but you order at the counter then seat yourself so it’s casual. Their smash burgers are high-quality and thoughtfully made. Worth the wait, and the staff has it down to a science to keep things moving quickly. I recommend coming earlier in the day to avoid super long lines, especially if you have kids. Also, get the shake - it’s made with Dutch cocoa and small-batch; truly so good and rich without being too much.
Craft Coast Beer & Tacos - Beloved favorite by locals and tourists alike. Can get crowded, but things move quickly. Fresh, authentic tacos and the outside seating provides prime people watching. Order at the counter then seat yourself; make sure to get the birria tacos!
Odie’s Pizza Co - Forget all the other pizza places, this is #1. It’s casual, lively, and has genuinely great pizza. Their specialty is sourdough crust (which is made with organic, unbleached, unenriched flour). I recommend going for their lunch special M-F (2 slices or slice/ salad + drink for around $10) if you can. Gluten free options available, and the ranch is worth the hype.
Green Cheek Beer Co. - The best brewery in Oceanside for all my beer aficionados. Lots of craft selections (including NA options) with a bar-style food menu, plus plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
best restaurants near oceanside pier
333 Pacific - It doesn’t look special from the outside, but if you want a fancier steak dinner, go here as it’s definitely one of the higher-end restaurants in Oceanside with private dining options. I recommend making a reservation and requesting a table with a view with a can; you can also spring for the romance upgrade which decorates the table with rose petals for an additional cost. Open for lunch, but better for dinner.
The Shore Room Bar - Limited menu; relaxing, upscale (but not stuffy) vibe. Better for drinks and small bites than a full dinner.
Toasted Gastropub - Brunch menu; you won’t get a view of the pier but it’s a central location if you are meeting up with others, and they’re one of the few brunch restaurants that can seat a large group.
Craft Coast Beer & Tacos - Super casual and just a few blocks from the pier, so it’s ideal for before/ after the beach. Flavorful street tacos that are fresh, authentic, and consistently good. There’s something for everyone.
Odie’s Pizza Co - Another grab-and-go spot close to the pier, though there are tables for casual seating. A great mix of classic toppings and crafted specialties; kids love it here.
The Rooftop Bar - If you care more about the view than the menu, go here. Mostly small bites and cocktails/ mocktails, but if you want somewhere to watch the sunset, it’s perfect. Love going here for a quick bite, then elsewhere for a bigger dinner.
best fine dining restaurants in oceanside
Truthfully, Oceanside is not my go-to when it comes to fine dining. You’re better off heading to Carlsbad or further south. My top recommendations:
Matsu - Nice place to celebrate anniversaries, date nights, and special occasions. They’re all about creativity, so you’ll try things here that you won’t find anywhere else. The staff is helpful and it truly feels upscale, but I’ve also known people to leave disappointed.
Valle - Michelin star with an 8-course menu and beautiful views of the pier and sunset. That said, very hit or miss, but when it’s good, it’s good.
best hidden gems in oceanside
allmine - Low-key, scratch-made Italian spot. First class service; I love to come here for date night or with family. Smaller portions, but they’ll fill you up. Highly recommend getting a pizza for the table.
Evaga - Best Mexican food in Oceanside. A little out of the way and a true hidden gem that some locals still haven’t discovered. Everything is authentic and tortillas are made in-house; skip the tourist traps and go here.
Dija Mara - It’s tiny, so you might miss it while driving along Coast Highway. Small bites meant to be shared, this Balinese-inspired menu is flavorful and fresh. Great for date night.
Eat Crispy Burger - Tanner’s has the line out the door; this is located more centrally downtown and super underrated. Not on the Michelin guide but if you want a good burger without waiting 30+ minutes, try here. Their food can be a little salty but they’re seed-oil free (avocado oil) and you can get a double cheeseburger for under $4. If you’re a sauce person, go here because their’s are really good.
The Plot - Mentioning this vegan hotspot again because it’s that place that you always mention but never try, then when you finally do, you wonder why you waited so long!
tips for dining in oceanside
When it comes to dining in Oceanside, keep four key areas in mind: downtown, near the harbor, off coast highway, and more inland.
Downtown and harbor restaurants are busiest and tend to be most convenient, though there are some great places off coast highway that I recommend. I rarely go inland.
If you are visiting during peak times (summer), parking isn’t terrible. I recommend:
Downtown -paid parking lots by the Seabird and Mission Pacific hotels; free garage on Seagaze Drive. You can also find a mix of metered and free spaces off Pacific Street, just a few blocks away (but a nice post-dinner walk).
Harbor - smaller lot but not impossible.
Off Coat Highway - street parking; if you are struggling to find a spot, go down one of the side streets.
Inland - most likely parking lots, so super easy.
Reservations aren’t really a thing unless you’re going somewhere fancy (like Matsu), to a smaller space (Dija Mara), or somewhere with a view (Rooftop Bar, 333 Pacific).
To avoid wait times, go early or late.
EX: right at opening or around 2PM (especially for lunch spots). Lunch spots tend to be busy all day when it’s summertime since people are coming from the beach, but things still move. For dinner 5PM-ish, then catch the sunset on the beach after.
Tanner’s Prime Burgers is always busy and the line wraps around the building pretty much all weekend long.
If you are spending a day at the beach and want a midday lunch -
If you want somewhere to go after a day at the beach -
And if you want a cheat sheet of where I go as a local:
Best overall restaurant - allmine, The Plot, LTH
